One of the great things about Open Source software, is that there is just about anything and everything out there that you could ever want.
Ubuntu Software Center
Installing software in Ubuntu has two choices that we are going to look at for just starting out. ( there are more options, but these are the easiest ways for people new to the Operating system)
New to the playing field is the wonderful new “Ubuntu Software Center” that is included with the 9.10 version that is soon to be out.
Now all you have to do is open up the Ubuntu Software Center, choose what type of program that you are looking for in one of the categories.
Select the application from the list. I am going to choose Airstrike. click on the yellow arrow on the right. You will move to the next screen.
All of the information that is about this program is displayed before you install anything. What this game is about, the website, and of course the install button.
Now to install the software, just click on the install button. Next Ubuntu is going to ask you for your “administration” or “root” password. The password would have been the one that you would have been asked to provide (the secret password for your computer, like the one to login to the computer) when you installed Ubuntu on your computer.
And now the software is installed on your computer. Since we installed a game it will be found in the “Applications” menu, under “games”.
